Running RUMNUT under Windows 7

RUMNUT is written in VBasic6 on a computer that is running windows XP. Windows 7 will support such programs but needs to be told about compatibility.

The exact issues and requirements seem to differ from one computer and Windows7 version to another so only use the information below if you need to

    Installing demo version of RUMNUT
  • Download the RUMNUT.EXE file into a folder on your computer. Double click to run the auto-install. If the auto install runs OK then that is great, if it does not then you need to make a WindowsXP compatible icon on the desk top.
  • Use Explorer to find the EXE file on your computer.
  • Now you need to change the compatibility of the RUMNUT.EXE program
  • Right click on the RUMNUT file name and select ‘Properties’ from the menu shown.
  • Click on the ‘Compatibility’ Tab
  • Check the box next to ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’
  • The box below will now be enabled, click on the down pointed triangle to show the options
  • Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the options
  • Under settings check the box next to ‘Disable display scaling on high DPI settings’ and the one below that to set to ‘Run this program as an administrator’
  • Click on Apply and then OK to close this form.
  • Now double click the RUMNUT file name to run it.

  • Installing full version of RUMNUT
  • Insert the CD into the computer
  • If the auto install runs OK then that is great, if it does not then you need to make a WindowsXP compatible icon on the desk top.
  • With the RUMNUT CD in the computer right click on a blank part of the desk top.
  • Select New from the menu and then Shortcut
  • Click on the Browse button and then look under Computer for the CD drive
  • The CD drive will show it has the CD in it called RNv5.2_sn601 or RNv5.2_Demo or similar.
  • Open the drive containing the CD and scroll down to the file SETUP. If you hover over this then it will show it as an application of about 208 Kbytes.
  • With this file highlighted click OK and the location of the item should show E:\SETUP.EXE or similar.
  • Click Next to continue, leave the shortcut name as SETUP and click Finish
  • You will now have a new icon labeled SETUP on the desk top.
  • Now you need to change the compatibility of the SETUP program
  • Right click on the SETUP icon and select ‘Properties’ from the menu shown.
  • Click on the ‘Compatibility’ Tab
  • Check the box next to ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’
  • The box below will now be enabled, click on the down pointed triangle to show the options

  • Under settings check the box next to ‘Disable display scaling on high DPI settings’ and the one below that to set to ‘Run this program as an administrator’
  • Click on Apply and then OK to close this form.
  • Now double click the SETUP icon to run it.
