RUNTIME ERROR 430: Class does not support Automation ....

Problem

On some machines RUMNUT will not run and comes up with the following error message: RUNTIME ERROR 430: Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface.

Response

I have been aware of this problem on a few machines for a while now and have tracked down the problem. It looks like there is an issue with one of the support files being the wrong version. On some machines a file exists in a version that is too old for RUMNUT.

The problem may lie with a file called 'scrrun.dll' and the age and version number of this file. This file is hidden in the depths of your computer so proceed with care; unless you understand the following do not do it!

  • Open Explorer by left clicking on the 'Start' button and then on Explore
  • Navigate to the C:\Windows folder; you may have to click on 'show hidden files' to show the files in this folder (see it is hidden!)
  • Open the System32 folder and show the files in this folder. This folder is usually very large and contains many, many files used by a raft of different programs - don't touch them!
  • Look for the file 'scrrun.dll'. On my machines it is quite old (Aug 2004) and is 148 KBytes in size.
  • If you don't find this file let me know and I will try and sort you out.

If you have this problem please contact me and I will forward you the necessary updates.

If none of these ways work you may need to contact me further assistance by email.
