I offer a more structured approach to on-farm rationing for those clients who want a continuous level of input. This is based around three components
- Regular farm visits. Such visits may be annually for low input/output units or quarterly for higher performing systems. Given that nutrition is such a clinical subject IU regard regular farm visits as essential to ensure that the animals and the farm performance data agree.
- Data analysis. Changes in the specifications of the fees (different cuts of silage) and changes in animal production levels require that rations are re-assessed. Typically this may be milk production data or new silage analyses.
- Ration revision After each change in the inputs and/or outputs irt is important that the rations are re-assessed. Ideally rations should not change that often but in certain cases it may be necessary to make minor changes to accommodate differences in the feed inputs or the animals outputs.
